Сценарий фильма отталкивался от событий, происшедших в начале 1988 года, во время операции «Магистраль», когда десантники девятой роты 345 отдельного парашютно-десантного полка, приняли бой у высоты 3234. Фильм выпущен в кинопрокат 29 сентября 2005 года. Бюджет картины составил 9 миллионов долларов, самой дорогой сценой стал взрыв самолёта (450 тысяч долларов).
